About Pilates
Pilates is a physical fitness system developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates. It is an effective, low impact method which emphasises postural alignment, core strength and muscle balance. Pilates works on all movement planes lengthening and stretching muscles to improve abdominal endurance, flexibility and balance. The exercises involve slow, precise movements using breath control to maximise the benefits. Participants develop their physical confidence by learning to trust their bodies abilities.
Pilates is suitable for nearly everyone and exercises can be modified to provide a challenging but safe exercise programme for improved general fitness, injury rehabilitation, elite performance and managing medical conditions.

Your Teacher Jackie Leon Sysum
I bring a lifetime of professional movement experience to my Pilates teaching having spent over 25 years working as an acrobat, dancer and circus arts teacher. In 2009 I completed my teacher training in all aspects of Mat Work and small equipment with the Pilates Foundation and I added Pilates Union Reformer Training in 2017. My special interests in working are young athletes and older adults. I have worked with young cricketers, cyclists, gymnasts, dancers, acrobats and track athletes to deal with muscle recruitment problems, improve alignment and maximise movement efficiency for enhanced performance. Keeping active becomes ever more vital for maintaining strength and flexibility in order to better cope with the physical issues of ageing. Exercise is also important in maintaining mental health. My classes are small and welcoming with a friendly inclusive atmosphere. Please contact me for more information. |
